What Is the Wheel of Life?

If you’re like most people, you probably have some areas of your life in which you thrive, and others where you may feel less than fulfilled.

Perhaps you have a great career and finances, but have been single for longer than you can remember.

Or maybe you have an active social life and loving partner, but feel unsatisfied with your job.

The wheel of life PDF is a self coaching tool that can help you identify areas of imbalance in your life. 

Once identified, you can look for solutions to address them and live a more balanced life.

Why Is Balance Important?

Many people believe that it’s not possible to find balance in every aspect of your life, but with the help of a simple self coaching tool such as the Wheel of Life, you can greatly improve your satisfaction levels and even your mental and physical wellbeing.

Keeping your life in balance can prevent you from burning out. It ensures you make time for adequate work, rest, play, and self-care.

Ultimately, this leads you to have better relationships, more energy, greater job satisfaction, more money, and a greater connection to yourself.

How to Use the Wheel of Life PDF

This is the Wheel of Life (make sure to download the free PDF template for your personal use).

As you can see, it has 12 sections. For each area, place a dot on the line to indicate your level of satisfaction in that category.

To indicate dissatisfaction, place a dot at the center of the circle. To indicate satisfaction, place the dot on the outside edge of the circle.

In most cases, you will probably fall somewhere in between. Place your dot anywhere between the center and the edge of the wheel to indicate your satisfaction level.

Once you have placed all the dots, join them together to reveal your personal wheel of life (see example below). This will give you a visual representation of the areas of your life that are most balanced, and which need more attention. Don’t worry if your wheel is wonky!

Use this information to make adjustments to the aspects of your life in which you feel least satisfied.

Repeat this exercise as often as you need. Think of it as regular maintenance for your life!

The 12 Sections of the Wheel of Life

Here is a brief guide to each area of the Wheel of Life to help you get started.


You may not think of yourself as a “creative person”, but humans are creative by nature, and expressing that creativity is essential for life balance.

You don’t need to paint a masterpiece or write a novel. What you create doesn’t even have to be good — it just has to be personal to you.

If you have doubts about your creative abilities, tell yourself “I am enough” and give yourself permission to create anything you want without judgment.


We all need money to live a fulfilling and balanced life. None of us can thrive unless our basic needs are met.

Once the basic costs are covered, money gives us the freedom to enjoy the activities we like, and to grow and develop ourselves. Growth is essential for human wellbeing, and when we stagnate, it throws our life off balance.

There is a lot of stigma around money, but there is no shame in using it to live a satisfying and fulfilling life.

We spend most of our waking lives working, so when you don’t feel satisfied with your career, it can affect every other area of your life — from your health to your relationships.


This includes not only formal education, but also professional training. You may have certain goals you wish to achieve that require specific training or skills.


Health is the true wealth. Without it, we have nothing. Maintaining a balanced wheel of life is one of the best ways to ensure good physical and mental health.

Physical Activity

We all know that exercise is necessary to keep our physical health in balance, but many of us don’t make time for it.

But it doesn’t have to be complicated to get more exercise. Start by making small changes to incorporate more movement into your life, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator. 

Your body will thank you for it.

Home Cooking

Many people either don’t have time for home cooking, don’t like it, or don’t see the point. After all, we have home delivery now.

But sharing a meal prepared with love around a table is an essential human bonding experience that can strengthen the connection with your friends and loved ones, making it an essential aspect of a balanced life. 

Home Environment

Your living environment has a huge impact on your sense of life balance.

When your home is messy and cluttered, it’s more likely that you, too, will feel scattered.

If you don’t like your home, and moving isn’t an option, there’s always something you can do to make it a more pleasant place to live, whether it’s clearing out your wardrobe or giving the walls a fresh lick of paint.


This category refers to your partner or romantic interest, children, friends, family, and even your boss and coworkers. 

It is one of the most crucial areas of the Wheel of Life, since when our relationships suffer, we suffer too.

Social Life

Humans are social creatures by nature, but modern lifestyles have reduced the amount of social contact we get in our daily lives. 

We need a healthy social life to thrive since loneliness has been shown to be as deadly as smoking.


The definition of joy is much debated, and often confused with happiness.

Without getting bogged down in definitions, joy is a feeling of alignment and connectedness. 

You may experience it looking at a sunrise, seeing a baby smile, or simply while doing something you love. 

Observe what brings you joy, and then do more of it.


You don’t have to be religious, or even spiritual, to experience spirituality. It’s simply a feeling of connection to yourself.

For example, I love to get out in nature. It’s when I feel most connected to myself, and is therefore a powerful spiritual practice that helps me find balance in my life.
