Shifting from your current reality (CR) to another desired reality (DR) is something we’re all wired to be able to do.

When your senses can be fully involved along with the emotions you’ll feel in your DR, you can be successful in your reality shifting.

It can be a personal thing, although here are some common shifting symptoms to help you know when you’re there.

Let’s dive in.

1. Flickering White Lights

Seeing white lights for a moment or two can be an indication that you’ve just entered your dream reality and are now experiencing a reality shift.

Some people see white and purple lights that are subtle and only appear for a split second, others say they see lights that seem to pulsate in rhythm with their heartbeat for a few seconds.

2. Vibrating

A common thing that happens is that your body could start vibrating. You may feel like you’re going to shake all over, and you’ll hear a buzzing noise in your ears.

Feeling your body vibrate is a great way to tell when this is working!

3. Dizziness

You may experience dizziness or nauseousness, with the sensation that everything around you is spinning while you’re remaining still.

Your brain has entered a lucid dreaming state.

4. Blacking Out

It’s not uncommon to feel like you are about to have a blackout. This is why it’s important to practice in a safe environment, like lying in bed. Your body and mind can become overwhelmed easily.

So, never try this practice when you are driving or in water – even the bathtub. You don’t want to put yourself in danger.

5. Sense Of Time

A sure sign that your method is working is your sense of time changes and you start feeling like it’s going faster or slower than usual.

Reality shifting is similar to dreaming, so your perception of time can be warped.

This is how it differs from your imagination. When you imagine a situation, you’re usually still aware of how much time has passed.

6. Feels Like A Dream

A common symptom of shifting realities is feeling as if you’re dreaming but you’re actually awake. This is because your conscious and unconscious minds create your new reality in real-time.

If this happens together with other signs from this post, you are most likely experiencing a reality shift.

7. Feeling Groovy

Having your overall mood improving is super beneficial. However, it’s important to note that this doesn’t happen to everyone and it’s okay.

8. More Sleep

Sleeping more than usual means that shifting reality is working! Being in a state where your mind is much more engaged than it typically would be can get pretty exhausting.

If your sleep requirements seem abnormal, it might be best to check with a doctor to make sure nothing else is going on or stop shifting realities for a couple of days and see your sleep patterns return to normal.

9. Numbness

Feeling numb while practicing is a sign you’re entering a reality. So it’s working. It can also feel like you’re floating or detached from your body.

10. Right Before Falling Asleep And After Waking Up

These are the times when shifting realities is the easiest. Right before drifting off to sleep, you’re most susceptible to a parallel reality, manifestation, and deep meditation.

This is when your brain is in Theta brainwave state where the mind is alert and the body starts to drift off to sleep. If this is when you choose to shift realities you’ll probably be successful.

11. Your Scripting Plays Out

Some methods require a script of what you’re choosing to experience. This helps you visualize and tap into your imagination quicker.

Plus, writing a script gives you more control over your dream reality. If your script seems to play out scene by scene, that’s a big symptom that what you are experiencing is, in fact, a reality shift.

12. Your Vision Changes

Your vision can change or you might see shapes, colors, or even animals that aren’t there. If that’s the case, then you’re probably entering a dream-like state of shifting reality.

You might also get blurred vision. It’s totally normal and it’ll clear up. This is one of the most common symptoms and means your shifting.

13. Real Life

It can feel as if all your senses are working normally, so things might feel as vivid and detailed as in real life.

Simply put, if you find yourself living in a world where everything feels very similar to your normal waking life, then your reality shifting is definitely working!

14. Sensations

An obvious symptom is when you start smelling things, or feel sensations that aren’t physically there. Like a cool breeze blowing in your face.

For example, if you’re in a shifted reality, and you have the sensation of walking on grass but all around you is pavement- don’t worry! That’s totally normal!

15. Smells

It’s also normal to smell things that aren’t there, like coffee or cookies. This is one of the signs that your reality has shifted.

16. Migraines

Migraines aren’t fun but they are a symptom of shifting. Your body can feel pretty exhausted after trying to shift, which can lead to headaches or migraines.

They usually subside soon after. If it persists for an unusual amount of time, think about getting it checked out by a doctor.

17. Homesickness

It might seem subjective but this could show you that your methods are working. Part of your consciousness still knows that where you are is not your “real” world. That connection is never severed, so you may feel the desire to be back home.

18. Gravity

If the method you use has you visualizing going down a rabbit hole, then you may feel a heaviness or as though gravity is pulling you.

19. Racing Heart

You might feel your heart racing because of your excitement or anticipation of feeling the shift. Try to set that aside so you can just go with the flow and not let your thoughts interfere.

20. Repeating Numbers

You might think about an angel number, like 999, which can represent that you’re destined to help others. It’ll be a sign from your DR to pay attention to.

21. Signs From The Universe

This could be when you see something from your desired reality in your current reality. For example, if there’s a dove that’s part of your DR and you suddenly start seeing doves in your CR, that tells you you’re shifting correctly.

It could also be something more general like butterflies, dragonflies or shooting stars.

How Do You Know If You Are Shifting?

There are certain signs and symptoms when you’re trying to shift that let you know you’re getting close.

Some symptoms include feeling weightless or heavy, tingles, feeling as though you’re spinning or falling, hearing voices or sounds associated with your DR, seeing flashes of light, etc.

It’s a very personal experience as not everyone has the same symptoms. For example, someone might experience weightlessness and spinning, while another person sees flashes of light, and hears voices.

When you notice these symptoms, it’s important to be calm and stay with your visualization and senses since these symptoms will likely prompt you to get excited.

It’s very exciting to finally feel like you’re getting close to your DR, but try not to let them take your focus away from shifting. Just note that you feel these symptoms and try to keep them in the back of your mind as you continue with your method.

What Does Reality Shifting Feel Like?

People who reality shift say It’s pretty awesome. The end result is that you’re experiencing a new reality – senses and all.

Think about it – when you have a normal dream, it’s usually not common to smell or feel things. You can have dreams that feel real, but you don’t actually smell things in it.

If you’re trying to consciously shift realities and you realize you’re smelling something from your DR, it means it’s working! Keep going!

Is Shifting Safe?

Aside from being mentally exhausted when you come back, shifting is not dangerous. You will come back no matter what. Dying in your DR will result in you waking up in your CR.

As with anything, it’s important to have a balance when you’re shifting realities because it can be very addictive.

The more often you shift, the easier it can be to get lost in that world and forget about your life.

It’s easy to be very tempted to spend your days living out through dreams of Hogwarts or any other fantasy you choose to go to.

However, shifting realities can be, after all, a method of escapism. The issues that may be difficult in your CR require your groundedness and presence to take the responsibility of addressing them.

It’s an amazing thing to dive into a completely different world now and then and I’m sure it’s better than getting lost in a scrolling frenzy on social media or binge-watching a show.

As with everything, you should look for a healthy balance, though.

Your real life is still here and it’s important not to forget about that. Consciously work on creating a better reality for yourself too.

Symptoms Of Shifting During The Day

During the day, when you’re not shifting, there will be some signs and symptoms you see during the day as you’re going about your CR.

Here are some of them:

  • Seeing repeating numbers or Angel numbers
  • Feeling detached from your CR
  • Things that relate to your DR popping up randomly in your CR
  • Feeling pulled towards your DR more than usual
  • Feeling as if you’re floating or weightless throughout the day
  • You’re CR feeling fake or seeming unnatural
  • An irritating itch
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Your CR body feeling fatigued
  • Nausea

Uncommon Shifting Symptoms

Reality shifting may cause somewhat of a blurring of boundaries between waking and dreaming consciousness.

It can feel very tempting to shift often and for long periods. It can actually lessen your ability to control your experience. This may be made more intense because some practitioners’ believe their experiences involve creating literal alternate realities.

Such a time investment in this practice at the expense of developing coping tasks to deal with real-life issues like social anxiety and loneliness may be damaging.

How To Ignore Shifting Symptoms

If you feel symptoms while attempting to shift, just try to ignore them. Keep your focus on your shifting method and your visualization.

Your goal is to try to forget about your CR physical body and what it’s feeling. Focus on your consciousness, that’s what you’re actually trying to shift with so your focus is to remain there.

If you think you’ve shifted, try not to get too excited. It’s completely normal and can be the best feeling in the universe to shift for the first time but getting too excited can snap you right back to CR.

Try to remain calm and immediately become immersed in your DR. Trust yourself and your energy. Your higher self could also be communicating something with you.

Shifting Symptoms Nausea

Nauseousness during shifting can occur along with dizziness and lightheadedness, however it doesn’t happen with any specific method of shifting. It just happens to be something that some people have experienced.

A suggestion to help if that’s what has happened with you is to drink water.

Here are some other tips:

  • Set a time limit to be in your DR
  • Work on making your CR amazing
  • Maintain rituals that bring you joy and brighten up your CR.
  • Take good care of your mental, emotional, and physical health—remember, you can’t shift if you neglect your CR
